“The In This Body group helped me feel connected to other people so I didn’t feel alone in my journey. I learned a lot about myself and my resilience. I saw firsthand how resilience manifests differently in people and it gave me strength to find my own. I highly recommend this group.”

Who is a good fit for this group?

This psychoeducation and support group is a great fit for folks who have realized that their relationship with their body needs to change and are looking for support in a community of like-minded folks doing the same work.

You may be a good fit for this group if some/all of these apply to you.

The underlined points are what would really help you get the most out of this group and what we base group fit on when we receive registrations:

• You have struggled/continue to struggle with body shame and feeling distanced from your body, its wants, desires and sensations and want to tune in to listen.
• You are not sure how to listen to or trust your body but are eager for this process to start.
• You want to heal your relationship to your body, food, movement, etc.
You are or have examined and begun to let go of behaviors rooted in dieting and disordered eating. You are pursuing ways to be kinder to your body, like ditching dieting and learning about Health At Every Size (HAES), intuitive eating, or social justice around food and body.
• You are realizing that dieting does not work, and are actively working toward not restricting your food intake.

• You are curious about the stories your body holds, how you learned what you learn, why you think what you think.
• You have the desire to begin the slow unpacking process of what it means to have a body in a world obsessed with thinness.
• You are willing to try something new that may stretch your comfort zone.
• You are wanting community and to feel like you are not alone in how you feel.

FAQs

  • Our group is a mix of styles: didactic/educational, support and process. This means that for the first half hour of our time together we go over education materials, with each week being themed regarding what we learn (example: diet culture week, roots of weight stigma week, trauma week, etc.). For the next hour of our time together we facilitate discussion that ranges from a supportive chat to processing past experiences of being a body in a diet culture-obsessed world, impact of trauma on our bodies, etc. Each week’s prompts are different and are in line with that week’s theme.

  • Our group is rooted in a body liberation framework and considers social justice and impacts of systems on our bodies as we dive deeper into our various topics week to week.
